When Do Casting Directors get back to you once you’ve applied?
Jan 25, 2022Let’s put you in the casting director's shoes for a moment. Your job is to find the right artist for each role in the musical / TV Show / Commercial / Film.
So you’ve put your casting brief on Spotlight, you’ve given everyone a few days to apply, and now you’re ready to go through the applicants. The number of applications that you’ve received will depend on the size of the project you’re working on. For example, with my production company, I run the casting sessions for the European Tour of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Gala. For this one show, we had over 2,000 applicants.
If you have the right connections, and you’re good at your job, everyone will want you to be their casting director for their projects, so you probably have quite a few castings on at the same time. This means you’re potentially receiving thousands of applications every single week for lots of different projects.
For that reason, you’ll find that casting directors will not respond to you if you have not been successful. Yes, it would be nice if they replied to let you know either way, but there are hundreds of others just like you, waiting to hear if they have made it through to the next stage of the process.
So, ‘When do Casting Directors get back to you once you’ve applied?’ If you’re not what they’re looking for, it’s unlikely you’ll hear back from them at all.
The best advice I could give you is, apply then forget about it. Don’t spend another second thinking about it. Start looking for the next project you can apply for so you’re not wasting any time. If you apply and then wait for a response, you’re going to be disappointed. So, submit your application… find another project, submit an application for that one… find another project, and you get the idea.
Don’t waste your time waiting for something that might never come.
